The Territory
The municipality of Serralunga d’Alba occupies almost the entire eastern slope of the Barolo DOCG appellation and is universally renowned for producing the most austere, monumental and long-lived wines in the entire region. Serralunga Barolo comes from vineyards growing on the Lequio Formation, one of the oldest and most compact geological formations in the Langa. The soil consists of a strict alternation of grey calcareous clay marls and layers of sandstone-derived sands, exceptionally rich in iron and minerals. These soils produce wines of exceptional longevity. In their youth, they are proud and tightly wound, but with bottle, they develop a regal elegance. On the nose, this wine reveals deep, dark notes of liquorice, tobacco and undergrowth, along with a distinctive sanguine and mineral note (graphite). On the palate, it is warm and deep, underpinned by a linear and powerful tannic structure that assures this wine’s capacity to age for decades. This is where legendary crus such as Vigna Rionda, Francia, Lazzarito and Cerretta are born.
