Barrel four is the last from the historic old vines. It’s really interesting to analyse this wine after the first three, because it is at a slightly more embryonic stage of its evolution and shows a markedly more austere character. This is due to the winemaking team’s choice to keep this wine in contact with a greater quantity of fine lees in order to soften and smooth the tannins, which initially appeared rather edgy. The goal here is for the wine to gain volume, body and structural harmony through this period on the lees. This wine is fascinating to taste because it’s still coming together. The fruit profile suggests slightly darker tones, with more spice, tobacco, cedar. This is a powerful, textural and highly impactful Barolo, but still decidedly ancestral at this stage. Young Barolo isn’t usually tasted from barrel at this stage, so it’s really interesting to compare and contrast these four wines. At this point, this wine appears somewhat less advanced in its evolution.

At Centro HPL – Services for Child Development, which is the foundation’s operational centre, research translates into programmes and interventions open to children, families and the wider educational community. Activities include neuropsychological assessment and diagnosis, specialist interventions, cognitive enhancement workshops, guidance and support for families, and training and consultancy for schools and third-sector organisations. Fondazione HPL promotes a model based on the creation of educational and social contexts that are more aware, accessible and capable of supporting and accompanying different growth trajectories, with particular focus on making specialist programmes more sustainable for families facing significant financial barriers. These initiatives are grounded in a multidisciplinary model, involving teams comprising professionals with complementary expertise, and a systemic approach, based on collaborative work across networks of professionals, schools, services, institutions and local organisations. The care provided does not focus solely on a single intervention, but takes into account the person’s whole family, school and social context. This practice promotes continuity, guidance and coordination among the various professionals involved, accompanying the family through the different stages of the process. Supporting Fondazione HPL means contributing to the creation of lasting opportunities for young people and of more informed, competent and accessible educational environments.
